Campaign Creator Deck

CC_header.jpg

The Campaign Creator deck aids in the creation of campaign and quest structures. Randomly generate concepts and themes by drawing cards when writing up a new campaign or story. Quest, Interlude, Theme and Story cards can be laid out and connected to create unique campaign concepts. Roll six sided dice and place them on the cards, and flip coins, to add even more nuance to each card drawn.

DT_CC_copy.jpg

The Campaign Deck can be used in multiple ways. Shuffle and draw cards, placing them beside one another, to create a string of events that will guide you when planning gaming sessions. Once you have drawn and placed your cards, try to think how adjacent cards can flow together and affect one another. The titles of the cards can be taken literally, or simply used as inspiration for campaign content.

Free PDF print files include:

- A3 size

- US Letter Size

-Tabloid Size

- PNGs for Web use

How to Print:

You can order a physical deck from DriveThruRPG. Alternatively, If you have downloaded the free files, take the PDfs into your local printer and ask for a thick card stock, have them guillotined down, then sleeve them. If you are printing at home, print on 300gsm if possible, or desktop printer paper (around 70gsm - 90gsm), then cut out the cards and put them in US poker size card sleeves.

Hey man, I love this deck and it's helped me a lot already. My only question is about the "interlude" cards as they all seem to be things the characters would or wouldn't do on their own. Like getting a job working with the blacksmith in town. How are these intended to be used without railroading players into doing these things during times of respite? I'm not complaining just looking for some clarification. Thanks mate!

Hi Matthew! Great question. I use the 'Interlude' cards as options within down-time. So if after an 'action' section of the game or session, your party goes to town or somewhere for some respite, you can use the 'Interlude' card as a prompt.

For example, the party come back to town for downtime, and you have drawn and rolled up 'Gambling and Games', 'Target Archery'. On the outskirts of the town you describe an archery tournament that's happening, with a large reward for the winner, but it costs to enter. The party can then decide if they wish to investigate the tournament, or simply move on into town. For the Blacksmith example, you could have the Blacksmith become a prominent NPC in the town, and befriend the party and offer work, or leave noticeboard posters saying 'Blacksmith's Apprentice Needed!'...
Just some ideas! Hope this helps! =)

In Theory a great tool.
However:
- Ordering a physical copy from DTRPG is out of my league due to shipping costs
- Each printing company I bring the templates to tells me, the result is going to be bad, as the templates are not 300dpi
So: Could you provide 300dpi PNG files, please? :)

Hi Kai B! The PNGs aren't for print, just for use with VTT. If you're having the files printed I'd advise using the PDFs, as they won't lose any quality. Hope this helps! =) I'll add a single page PDF with bleed if that helps. Thanks!

Hi! If you ordered a physical print version it should come in a tuck box (if it didn't I would email DriveThruRPG). The printable version doesn't currently contain a tuck box file, but that's a good idea! I'll upload one soon

Hi! The 'Story Cards' can be used in different ways. They contain the eight elements of a quest. Enemies, Allies, Setting, Lore, Problems, Solutions, Secrets, and Objectives.
When planning a new campaign, lay out the Story Cards beside one another, next to your campaign layout. For each Quest card, take notes on the eight elements listed on the Story Cards (use them as a reminder). By including these eight elements into each Quest, the experience will become much more rich and tangible.
For a more advanced use of the Story Cards, insert them between Quest and Interlude cards as prompts for when those Story Elements may arise in your campaign. The 'Enemies' element, for example, may represent the reveal of the main antagonist.
Hope this helps! Thanks!

I love this product.

However, there are cards that are missing in PNG format. Evidently, it is an export problem because all even-numbered cards are missing. Note the sequence.

That is an easy fix though. I'll be waiting for the update to correct it.

Thanks Samuel! I've just downloaded the PNG zip file myself, and all cards are in there. I see that the file names are odd numbers though! (I think it is because I didn't save the card backs out for each card). Great spot, thanks for the feedback! So all cards are present but the file names are incorrect. I'll change them soon and re-upload =)
Thanks again!

These seem like a great idea but I also can't print them out properly.
My paper is always A4 so don't have access to US letter or an A3 print.
Any chance of an A4 version for us in the UK?

The printing is total off! Nearly 1/4 in if you print duplex. Quite honestly, that is very annoying. Not only are the print marks set false (cut the first batch then you see what I mean) but also the files are not fully aligned. I used the printer friendly US Letter pdf and front and back side of the cards are off as mentioned above.

This is quite annoying and very disappointing. Please revisit the US Letter and reupload a correct version, because like this the product is completely unusable.

Hi Philipp. I've checked the US letter friendly print file, and I'm not sure what you mean? Every page is exactly aligned to the other (you can see this by flicking from one page to the next within the PDF, all of the borders and crop marks line up to every other page). If you are printing double sided on a desktop printer, there can be movement with the paper, which results in the print not being perfectly aligned to the other side. Taking the file into your local print shop might be a better option

There is a problem with the print marks in any of the templates. The problem is that they are "outside" which means, if you print and then do a horizontal cut, you cut away the vertical guidelines from the print and don't know anymore "where to cut". Can you eventually correct this and rather make them not outside but inside?

Crop marks need to be on the outside so they don't show on the final cut card. When you do any cut you will inevitably lose other crop-marks. This is why in a print shop they would use a guillotine so you can input the measurements and it will cut accordingly. If you are using a scalpel and a ruler on a cutting mat, don't cut over the edge of the page, but just over the crop marks. This will make it easier to follow the leftover guides.

I am starting an Ironsworn campaign and this deck is fantastic for laying out a potential story arc with themes and interludes. The gameplay may go in an entirely different direction but I strung about 10 quests together very quickly. Great job!

Thanks for providing this! I'm curious what the cards labeled "Secrets/Objectives", "Problems/Solutions", "Setting/Lore", and "Enemies/Allies". Are they just sort of divider cards with cool art and two words to get you thinking about those aspects of the campaign you're planning?

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
