Monsters and Treasure!

Old-school dungeon-crawling is at its best in The Fantasy Trip. This book covers roleplaying, character creation and experience, and advanced magic and combat rules for players who already have Melee and Wizard. First released in 1980 and unavailable for decades, In the Labyrinth is back in a new, expanded, and improvedion for daring dungeon-delvers!

The PDF in of this supplement is contained in the digital set for The Fantasy Trip Legacy Edition. If you own the Legacy Edition, you don't need this one!

Is this a complete game, or does one need Melee/Wizard to run it?

This is the rules compendium, so it includes the rules content of Melee and Wizard plus more. However, it doesn’t include the paper maps or cardboard counters from the microgames, so you’ll need your own hex map and counters or minis to play.

Actually, it is NOT a complete game. It DOES contain Advanced Melee and Advanced Wizard, but it DOES NOT contain Melee or Wizard. That is why the description says that it is "for players who already have Melee and Wizard." One needs Melee and Wizard to run it.

I'm not sure this is correct. I own a hardcopy of In the Labyrinth and felt it presented complete combat and spell rules.

I downloaded the free Melee rules from DTRPG and compared them against the rules in the In the Labyrinth book. I don't see anything in the Melee rules that aren't presented this book.

In my opinion In the Labyrinth includes all the rules you need.

| Actually, it is NOT a complete game.

Nonsense. In the Labyrinth is a complete role-playing game. Melee and Wizard are wargames. They are a subset of the ITL rules; they cover only the combat portion of The Fantasy Trip.

This edition of In the Labyrinth contains all content found in Melee and Wizard as well as the Advanced Melee and Advanced Wizard modules from the 1980s.

The clause "for players who already have Melee and Wizard" is misleading. I think the author's intention was to entice player's of Melee/Wizard to upgrade to the complete version of the system.

I played this game as a teenager and always wanted to share it with my son's. They have been infected with the D&D bug so I am thrilled that I was able to find The Fantasy Trip games after being out of print for so long. This brings me back to awesome memories and will help to create new ones with my kids!

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
