Apocalypse the Risen Campaign Setting is a Pathfinder Compatible (1e) post-apocalyptic fantasy horror roleplaying game. The setting takes place on Earth, twenty-five years after the fall of society in an event known as the Rise. Demons, the dead, mutated horrors, and existential dread wait around every corner. In order to survive the Rise, humanity formed colonies to rebuild civilization. Do you want to continue the fight against the growing Darkness? Of course, that’s why you are here. Survival in this apocalypse requires grit, desire, skill, and maybe a little bit of luck. So join us in the fight!

The Fall came gradually at first. Seals being broken and ancient wards destroyed while we watched the evening news. The signs were all around us, delirious messages sent 280 characters at a time. As the last Seal shattered, the multiverse was ripped asunder. Now dead walk the Earth and demonkind advance through portals long forgotten.

When the Veil tore, Purgatory itself yawned wide. Souls of the past were ripped from their existence in the Grey and found new homes in the bodies of the dead. Corpses awoke from their graves and twisted into reanimation. Known as Risen, these zombies possess an insatiable and indiscriminate hunger.

  • Progeny – Half-demons inherit abilities and physical traits from their demonic sire
  • Lazarus – Free spirits escaped from Purgatory, taking physical form on Earth

I really love this book! Especially the session zero you included in the book, gives the players a good protective feel for the town. But when building a town I noticed there was a section missing on Citizenry (Page 272) where rather than (what I presume) is suppose to be a chart for colony size it's only <sbs</sb>. Is there errata for what should be here instead?

Hi Philip! Thank you for the feedback. We are really happy about how Session Zero turned out and stoked to hear commentary on it. The Colony is very important in AtR, which adds a different flare from most RPGs and captures what we think post-apocalyptic life would be about.

As for the missing chart... YES, there is in fact a missing chart. We found that right away after publishing and it is being corrected in layout this week. That, and the many typos we found on our post-publishing scrub. Amazing what you find that will keep you sleepless at night! Updated PDF will be deployed by the end of the week and all owners will receive an update to re-download. And a very clean version will be going to print soon!

Thanks for the swift reply! My players (None of them knowing the world prior, liked the confusion it caused) only knew that an apocalypse occurred! They had quite a bit of fun with it and went about saving everyone they could. One was quite upset when the Mechanic died.

I look forward to seeing what other books/modules you all might do as well!

That's so cool to hear! This is exactly the approach and reactions we imagined from Session Zero. Great to hear real world results from the unsuspecting players.

Great setting, I love the feel of it. Definitely going to run it at some point. Before I do, though, I have a couple of issues. Most notably, the Harbinger table mentions "conservator spell access," which I assume is meant to say "harbinger spell access" since harbingers don't pull spells from the conservator list. The Arbiter also has a very strange BAB of +17 at 20th level, and I'm not sure whether you meant for them to be a full bab or 3/4 bab class.

Beyond that, there's quite a few grammatical errors. Near as I can tell, nothing that changes how anything works, but there are a lot of entries I have to reread to understand. I'm also not quite finished with the book, so there may be things I haven't yet noticed. In any case, I'm going to not write a review for a while and hold out for an edited version of the PDF.

Thank you for your comment and the purchase, Jacob. At over 350k words POST-editing, we certainly have opportunity for typos. The Harbinger Spell Access is on the list and will be corrected, thank you! We have been making another full scrub and will be posting an update to the PDF in the next week, specifically before we go to print later this month. Arbiter BAB is correct and balanced for the variety of benefits the class receives.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
