Cosmic Horror Powered by the Apocalypse!

The universe is more terrifying than mankind can possibly imagine, but you've seen things, you know things, and you've begun to understand. Can you find a way to stop the evil always lurking in the shadows, waiting to enslave or destroy the human race? Can you survive with your sanity intact?

Mythos World is a roleplaying game of cosmic horror using the Apocalypse World engine. Players investigate bizarre events in a classic 1920s setting inspired by authors like H.P. Lovecraft, Clark Ashton Smith, Robert W. Chambers, and Robert E. Howard.

Dear Russel, I would like to publish it in Poland as GRAmel Books. Can we talk somehow via email?

As of 2018, the text of Mythos World (not the cover art of images) is released under the Creative Commons 4.0 attribution license. (https:/ / licenses/ by/ 4.0/). That means as long as you give credit to the original author, you're free to use the text, or translate it in this case.

I’ve bought the Mythos World rpg through Spheremaster Games in Germany, and was wondering if you would supply me the pdf version of the book? (I’ll share the receipt if you need it.)

Tremulus and Mythos World are similar to the extent that they both rely heavily on the conventions established by Apocalypse World and Dungeon World, and they both draw on the classic 1920s setting and the basic character concepts established in the original Call of Cthulhu game. They differe in appoach. Tremulus maintains a sanity point and hit point system and uses lots of roll modifiers as move bonuses. In Mythos World, mental disorders and physical injuries are direct results of moves. Mythos World also favors move results that have specific narrative effects. Tremulus has meatier procedures for developing settings and storylines, including the extensive and interesting Ebon Eves scenario generator. In short, Mythos World is a simpler representaton of Cthulhu roleplaying in the Apocalypse World engine, while Tremulus has deeper rule systems.

I appreciate the openness. :)

I personally did not like the "meatiness" of tremulus when running a campaign in it, so I will give this one a try, too. Always glad to see new takes on the genre. :)

I'd say the exact opposite.

What makes this unique from Tremulus, the other world engine cosmic horror?

"Mythos World is a roleplaying game of cosmic horror using the Apocalypse World engine."

I thought that was Tremulus?

What's the difference?

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.
Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
