Micro-Maze 04: Tales of the Atomic Bard
A complete post apocalypse solo game- just supply dice and a pencil!

You play a few notes on your trusty harmonica as you look off towards the distant walls that surround Arcadia City. Hulking brutes in armor bristling with spikes guard the towering metal entry gates. A trio of scavengers attempt to approach and one of the massive goons fires a warning shot with their laser rifle. Another step or two further and the scavengers would have been reduced to smoldering piles of rags and scorched flesh. They're fools for daring to approach the gates, but you don't blame them for trying. You'd love to get in yourself.
Arcadia City is the only secure holdout for hundreds of miles. Its said that within those armored walls the citizens enjoy constant electricity, clean running water, good shelter, and a regular supply of food. Outside the walls there's the irradiated wasteland... an endless maze of wreckage, rubble, and hazards. Its a place where most of the survivors of the war make their home, including mutants such as yourself.
Though kissed by Mother Atom before you were born into the world, you still have a chance at getting past those gates. Arcadia City doesn't choose between purebloods and mutants. The glorious Mayor simply accepts those who can offer something in return for their citizenship. Payment and proof of one's mettle, that's what Arcadia City wants from you!
You slide your harmonica into your jacket pocket and pull your gore encrusted machete out of its sheath. Whistling the final part of the tune your way playing, you begin to work your way back into the deep of the wasteland. Getting through those gates are going to cost some tokens, you tell yourself, and a whole lot of reputation.…

Micro-Maze 04: Tales of the Atomic Bard is the fourth installment of the Fishwife Games' Micro-Maze adventure game series. As with other Micro-Maze adventures, Tales of the Atomic Bard is a complete, solo player game that is played by drawing your way through a symbol filled maze and rolling dice. This particular adventure is set in a wild and crazy post apocalyptic world.

The role of your player character in the game is that of a mutant bard who wanders the wastelands in hopes of gaining enough tokens and reputation to gain citizenship in Arcadia City. Tokens can be earned by selling found relics to the trader's market or by entertaining settlement survivors with musical performances. Reputation is earned as you defend yourself against a variety of wandering thugs, beasts, and horrid monstrosities.
The flow of the game play is handled by having the player start their character at the top of the maze map and work their way through the maze until they meet their goals and reach the city gates at the end. The maze represents the rugged, debris filled wasteland ruins that the bard weaves their way through on their quest. As the player comes across symbols in the maze the player will roll the dice and consult the appropriate chart (and rules) connected to the particular symbol that the player character encounters. Some encounters require combat, others require avoiding a hazard. Other symbols may allow the character to heal, find a much needed item, or trade collected relics for additional tokens. As the bard character takes damage, earns tokens and reputation, or finds gear or relics the player will record these changes in a special section below the maze on the maze map page.

In order to play Tales of the Atomic Bard you will need a printed off copy of the rules and also, most importantly, a printed off copy of the chart page and a printed copy the maze map/character record sheet. Its recommended that you make extra copies of the maze map/character record sheet as you'll want to play the game again and again. You'll also need to have a regular pair of six sided dice and a pencil. A pocket calculator is also recommended.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
