Gregorius21778: 99 Names for Dragons

ADD TO WISHLIST >

Before you go, listen. There is something you should know. There is not only one beast, but four of them. See the mountain peek there in the distance? That is where we believe a great dragon to have its lair. We have not seen it in generations, but the tale goes that it is an eldritch beast that speaks a tongue of its own as well as others, a monster whose name means Stormflight Eoncoil. Woe to those who rose his anger, the mountain ridged he claimed as his own, as well as the wood and land at its feet. It drove off or killed everyone who settled there, and the finest knights could not best it, so it is said. Over the decades, it sired three children. The gods may know who or what it did this with, but the three children are dragons as well, but unlike the great one. They are much smaller, praised be the gods for it, but mindless and savage. As even its third child failed to please it, the great dragon retreated to the mountain and was never seen again. It never gave them names but drove them all away, but we gave them names for it us who now suffer under them: Scorchtrail, Copperclaw and Smolderscale. They are the curse of this land, and the curse of us...

Dragons are fearsome, dreadful beasts, some of them mighty enough to rival minor gods. Those that have more intellect that a savage beast tend to be enigmatic, cruel and often uncaring. Those who are beasts are truly bestial, savage destructive. But no matter what kind a dragon is of, it is never something to be trifled with, and most men would never seek them out, no matter why. They nevertheless speak of them, with a lowered voice or with fear and panic.

This list provides 99 descriptive names for dragons. Just pick one and apply it to your own eldritch monster or pick two to combine it into something that might be close to a translation of the dragon´s own name in the human tongue.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
