Gamemaster's Eclectic Toolbox

ADD TO WISHLIST >

The Gamemaster's Eclectic Toolbox is an organized, interlinked, and bookmarked compilation of all the most effective house rules that have developed and evolved at my game table. I've crammed in just about everything I've discovered over years of running and playing Genesys that I wished I'd known starting out. The tools I value most are those that save the gamemaster time, and you'll find lots of them in the Toolbox. I also focus on providing mechanical support for long term, ongoing campaigns.

I'll be expanding this product a few times a year as the ideas I experiment with at the game table prove themselves worthy of inclusion.

Highlights:

  • 2 Methods to quickly create Adversaries

  • Comprehensive Guidelines for Awarding XP

  • Single page rules for using Maps & Miniatures

  • Single page rules for Adversary Morale

  • Single page rules for Random Character Creation

  • 3 pages of advice for running Skill Challenges

  • 4 pages of advice for designing New Talents

  • Simple Method for fleshing out Careers with Talents

FYI to the author, your title went GOLD, but still shows Silver image, you should update it to show the achievement! And congratulations!

Probably the most useful tool available from the Genesys foundry at the moment. While not everything will apply to every GM, there is something in here for every GM (and none of it is system or setting exclusive). I can personally see myself using almost everything in this book at some point.

There's very little in the way of fluff, it's entirely mechanically relevant, and the guide is very easy to navigate. If you or your group has a question as to "how should we make this mechanic work that isn't found in the rulebook," there's a solid chance you'll find it here. Nothing redundant, all very well displayed. The document itself is also organized into a navigable PDF with fully articulated table of contents. Nice touch, OC!

Definitely worth the price point, and definitely glad I have this in my RPG collection. Thanks for taking the time to make such a great utility!

I personally really appreciate your words in the introduction about how unhelpful and deterring people in the community can be when someone is asking about introducing something into a game that is meant to be a creation kit. Spot on and encouraging.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
