Modern War: Baltic War

ADD TO WISHLIST >

War in the Baltic states.

As Belarus considers applying for NATO membership, and the West hesitates to commit … Russian forces seize the initiative, launching an invasion of the Baltic States and Belarus. Now a number of NATO units are trapped behind the lines and must wage a guerrilla war. In Belarus a tank war has begun, with Minsk, the capital, the prize. Welcome to modern war…

Baltic War is a campaign premise for Zozer Games’ Modern War RPG. It is a tool-kit that provides various situations, mission ideas and squad templates that allow players to fight the Russian invasion in one of several national armies, at one of several battlefronts, each different from the rest.

Baltic War includes new vehicles, new weapons, guidance on helicopter gunship attacks and a list of national armies and deployed units. NPCs for the guerrilla war are also included.

How far ahead have you peered into the future to write about Belarus and purposefully avoiding Ukraine. Uncanny.

It was only by a whisker, as I was doing my research on a Russian/European war, Ukraine looked the most likely, but I thought the Baltic states would be more interesting from a political viewpoint. Belarus had to get involved. I set up conditions and 'gamed out' each f the future wars to a critical moment then stopped the game and wrote up the results for the book. I'm so glad I didn't 'game out' a Ukraine conflict.

Are you considering updates or supplements to include Ukraine?

If you can believe it, I purposely ignored the Ukraine as a future fictional war because I thought it was too likely and too close to reality!

I’d not like to delve into the situation - it’s too raw and too confused. And the possible national or regimental options are very limited.

I just purchased Modern War: Baltic War, and so far, it looks and reads well. I noticed two minor transposition mistakes, both with the caliber designation for weapons on p.21: RPK-16 [5.54mm] and AK-12 [5.54mm] should by RPK-16 [5.45mm] and AK-12 [5.45mm] as the round is 5.45 x 39mm.

I like the approach of this campaign book, and am looking forward to one for the China Sea War. Any ETA on that?

No, there are a couple of historical books to bring out this year ... I never considered creating campaign books for all of the fictional war scenarios in the Modern War rules. Nice idea.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
