Broken Compass is an Adventure Role-Playing Game inspired by the great movies and games of the genre, from the Mummy all the way to Uncharted, passing through Indiana Jones and Tomb Raider.

In Broken Compass you play as an Adventurer in search of great Treasures, a man or woman of action, ready to risk it all every day, just so they can get to the finish line before their bitter Rival! Broken Compass is a Role-Playing Game in which Players take the role of Adventurers in search of a Treasure.

Fallen Fortune

Adventurers in Broken Compass are men and women of action, traveling the World to face the Challenges of great cities and wild, unwelcoming lands alike. Adventurers risk their lives every day, driven by their will to discover, learn or obtain something priceless to them.

Broken Compass is based on the highly cinematographic Fortune System: a set of game mechanics that use small pools of six-sided dice to determine the outcome of any task that might entail risks or end in accidents. To succeed, you don’t need to roll high totals. Your aim is to roll two-, three-, and four-of-a-kind results, which become Successes.

Rules question on Character Generation

p. 42 says: "You might choose 2 Tags that give you the same Field. When this happens, you can fill in a Diamond in that Field and 1 more in the Backup Field of your choice for 1 of the 2 Tags."

However, the given example doesn't demonstrate that. The skill First Aid should not have 3 diamonds filled in if the above is correct.

What's worse is that the Quickstart Rules downloaded from the Two Little Mice website has a different rule:

p. 34: "If two Tags give you a Diamond for the same Skill, you can fill in two Diamonds for that Skill."

And, just like in the core rules, the given example doesn't follow the given rule.

For now, I am going to assume that the main Core Rules is correct. The Quickstart Rules don't have Backup Fields for the Tags, so perhaps that's why the rule is different? Does anyone have any light to shed on the issue?

I think you are confusing Fields and Skills. The example text you quoted from p. 42 of the core rules is saying that if you choose two tags that both have the same primary Field, you can assign your second diamond to one of the backup Fields, from either tag.

The text on p.34 of the quickstart is saying that if both of your tags list the same Skill (not Field), you can get two diamonds in that skill.

Just wondering but where are all the pdfs of all the other books that have been funded for this game? This game is impossible to find for sell anywhere online (physically speaking) at this current time, and the pdfs for all the seasons have been out to backers for well over a year. So what gives 2LM?

I'm not positive but they might just be the higher resolution PDFs that Peter S asked for. If so it would be great if they could label them as such to avoid confusion. Both of the new files are roughly double the size of the originals so I could see that being the case. I would hope that updates would be applied to both versions if so, or at least the old version could perhaps be removed. The same applies to Golden Age because it has two files as well.

These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
