CBR+PNK is a dual-pamphlet RPG for one-shot sessions in the cyberpunk genre. Player characters are a team of RUNNERS — mercs, criminals, activists living on the edge and running in the shadows of a gritty, ultraviolent world.

In each game we play an entire new cast of characters during their LAST RUN.

CBR+PNK pamphlet

The GM pamphlet features most of the rules for running the game, a Run generator and easily customizable sample Threats.

The Player pamphlet (Runner File) is the character sheet itself, containing character creation and other character focused rules (Stress, special actions, recovery, etc). Simplified character sheet on Google Sheets for online play are also available here.

CBR+PNK game uses a minimalist version of the acclaimed Forged In The Dark system to produce cinematic action. Some of the modifications are:

  • Approaches and Skills instead of Attributes and Actions.
  • No playbooks: characters are differentiated by their combination of approaches, skills and gear.
  • Cyberware is a special kind of Gear activated using a Push action. It can give special permissions, increase Effect or reduce Threat.
  • Glitches: a discernible dice rolled when using certain gears or approaches. It brings additional complications when 1-3 is rolled.
  • Because it's more action oriented, there is no Downtime and Stress is relieved by a special action during the Run.

(micro review; bought it on itch)
Good blades-y stuff, mostly the same as "blades summarized to a 1page;" doing to blades what world of dungeons does to DungeonWorld.

most significant change from blades: dice pools for action rolls are now formed by {0-2 dice from approach, such as smartness} + {0-2 dice from skill, such as close combat} and {0-1 die from player-created specialization, such as "assassinate the unalert (close combat)"}

_I particularly like this tweak._

2nd major variant: there are no playbooks; chargen is (a) put X dice into these approaches/skills (b) name 1-4 cyberware you have. (which are much more like fate aspects and aren't fleshed out now.)

If you're as exhausted by time spent on feat-shopping during chargen in most RPGs as I am, this'll be refreshing.

3rd: since this is designed for one-shots, leveling, de-stress and downtime are gone in favor of:

3.a: running out of stress doesn't put...See more

Thank you for such a thorough review! Your critique is very valid, in fact something like that occured to me during the late design stage but yours is seems better fitted to the overall FitD design.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.
Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
