Knock! - Issue #1

Could we get a preview with the table of contents, for this and for the other issues of Knock?

REVIEW: this is gud stuff! I read it twice just to make a ranking of its content for you guys.

Out of the 140 first pages (articles, random tables, tips/rules, mini-essays, and so forth) - this includes the art :
- 14 pages : meh, won't read thrice, non useful (to my taste)
- 38 pages : good, but very specific stuff. Might use or re-read some time.
- 33 pages : very good stuff. Worth regularly reading. Gonna use it when appropriate.
- 55 pages : excellent stuff! Can't wait using it or implementing it in my games.

There are 7 classes (compatible with OSE), their use highly depends on the style of play, of course.

Out of the 7 creatures/monsters, I'd use 6 in most games, leaving one a little too specific for my taste.

There are also 3 adventures/dungeons. I don't feel like I'm competent enough to rate them, but they mostly seem fine.

That's about 50% stuff I consider amazing content, plus 30% I find very interesting. It does...See more not seem like "a lot", but trust me, it is a lot for my taste. The book is 210 pages full of content, FULL of it. Everything is worth reading, although not everything is top tier content. It's beautiful, above it all.

So, hopefully I've waited long enough for frustration to subside. I'm really eager to read you offerings as I am experimenting with OSR RPG offerings. In particular, I was eager to print out my purchase of Knock#1 but I have run into difficulties that I hope you might help with. When I print the "pages" version (using "fit" to page to accommodate my eyesight) it turns out a copy with a hand full of the pages reversed. This also happens with the "spread" version where double-page pages are reversed. Is this a flaw in the PDF? Can it be corrected? Am I doing something wrong in the settings? (I tried to find settings that would force same orientation for all pages but I cannot locate such in Adobe.) Additionally frustrating is the fact that the preview window shows the pages in the proper orientation! As I said, I'm really looking forward to reading your material. Can you help me out?

Is anyone interested in selling your hard-copy Issue 1?

Will this be offered in print on demand?

I have the hard copy from Kickstarter, and am unable to leave a review in that section unless I buy the pdf. So here it is: Knock! #1 is a fine-looking artifact, but ultimately not much more than that. The layout, print quality, artwork and colours are tremendous but it is closer to an art piece or small coffee-table book than a game document.

All the work from the top-shelf writers (the ones who made this zine an auto-buy for me, incidentally) is existing material from their gaming blogs. Reading this gave me an intense feeling of having been hoodwinked, as I flipped through page after page of material I was already familiar with. More than that, the material is presented with aesthetics in mind, not usability - especially the tables!

I strongly suspect that most buyers will read this, think "nice," and put it on the shelf where it will rest, pretty but unread. Certainly what's happening with mine.

Way too expensive. Even if I could get a tree copy it's over 50 dollars. Pass.

Got a physical copy from the Kickstarter campaign. This artifact is a must have!
