Tales of the West

ADD TO WISHLIST >

Howdy pard! Just want to introduce Tales of the West, a cinematic role playing game set in the partly historical and partly fictional wild wild west. I took the 4C Expanded rules and bent them to work with this wild and wooly genre. The game is completely skill based, so no super cowboys with Fire Generation capabilities or Psionic powers to fry their nemesis' mind with. This game is as straight-laced as it gets!

However! If you want a freaky wild west sort of game, you can easily add those rules that can be found in the 4C Expanded core rule book which can be downloaded here at DriveThru RPG under the Pay What You Want set up. Personally, I like having a western game without magic and zombies, but whatever floats your boat! That's the sweetness of 4C Expanded, use what you want and lump the rest!

Back to Tales of the West! In the PDF you'll find a complete game system with a bunch of wild west content that you can use to play in a sandbox style. If you want to start out with a place for your characters to branch out from, there's also a fictional starter town called Bloodstone where they can interact with several interesting NPCs and get their spurs before heading out into the rest of the frontier to face the challenges therein.

So what are ya waitin on pilgrim? Go on! Give it a try. You might just like it!

Sorry, don't know where else to ask this so I'm asking here.
Two questions:
It states you can use Fate Points for character advancement, but I can't find any rules for character advancement.
Also, when using point-buy, what if you buy 35? Where do you roll? On the 30 line or 40?
Same question really for any number that isnt 1, 3, 6, 10, 20, 30 etc.
I apologize if I missed this somewhere.

Skill Advancement rules are found on page 17. Cost to increase a skill level is 200 Fate points times the current level, so to go from 2nd to third would cost 400 points. The GM can alter this rule if he or she chooses, but the 200 point cost keeps characters from advancing too quickly as each level in a skill represents several years of training and practice. New skills may be purchased at a cost of 250 points for 1st level. You can also have someone teach or coach you to reduce the Fate point cost by half. This teacher must be at least 1 level higher in the skill than the character, and the character must make a successful Intellect check after the training period to gain the cost reduction.

As for the in-between Rank numbers, each listed value in the Master Table is the plateau for the Rank, so everything between 30 and 40 is rolled using the Rank 30 row. So your 35 is still read as a 30 until you raise it to 40 or better. I overlooked adding the advancement rules for Traits, but from the original...See more

We have a Discord server set up for 4C Expanded now where you can pop in any time to ask questions or share ideas or to tell us about your adventures if you like. Discord invte link is https://discord.gg/8SDPRfEAf8

We also can be found on Farcebook. Our page address is https://www.facebook.com/4CExpanded
And our FB Group link is https://www.facebook.com/groups/374595933623870

I don't post on these pages as often as I'd like, but I'm busy working on so many projects at the moment to justify hanging out for too long. I do see notifications on them however, and do respond when I get the chance.

Glad you're liking it. If you're into playing online over Virtual Table Top platforms, I'm currently working on a module to be played on Astral VTT. I've got the city of Bloodstone all mapped out and have dozens of NPCs ready to go. Just need to finish the write up and it'll be ready to go.

It looks like you only get to advance through buying skills. If you have a 35, you roll as if you had 30 and add 5 to the percentile dice

Is there a way to get a print copy?

Also, very weird that it has the exact same cover as another western rpg, Song of the Sixgun.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
