The Stalwart Age RPG Core Rules

ADD TO WISHLIST >

It’s 1984. 4th period. You should be studying for the math quiz (it’s JUST a quiz), but you’d rather talk about issue 250. The Mighty Doc Stalwart 250 came out yesterday, and it’s all any of your friends want to talk about. Of course, Dave (such a Dave) is fixating on Doc holding up that bridge. Something about the Official Stalwart Age Handbook putting his upper limit at 70 tons, but Dave’s dad said that bridge section was at least 200 tons, and he’s an engineer. Whatever. It was awesome. But not as awesome as the end. Emissary died? For real? Did NOT see that coming. But it makes sense. It feels right.

And then Marcy says she’s been home brewing her own supers game and wants to run that this weekend instead of fantasy. She wants to do an homage to issue 250, and she thinks you should play the Messenger character (maybe calling him ‘the Red Runner’. Not sure yet). You say you’re in. You’re totally in. Your parents say you can stay all day, and they give you money for pizza. Everyone is going to be there.

This is going to be EPIC.

The Stalwart Age is a superhero RPG released under the Open Game License.

The print edition is now live. With this download, you get a link to a discounted print edition. See page 31 for your direct link to the discounted edition.

I'm considering making the switch to Sentinels to Stalwart Age but something I'm curious about, why is there such a big increase in the number of actions a character can take?

LOL - I had to go back and read through my blog posts at the time to see what my thinking was around that decision. There were two fundamental reasons. The first is that it made sense to me that more powerful heroes act more often. This is more comic-book accurate. Members of the JLA don't deal with one mook at a time; they are mowing through them. The second reason, and driven more by mechanics than comic accuracy, is that speedsters just take tons and tons of actions. This helped me to resolve a movement issue I was having. I could scale movement rates lower because a speedster was getting to take that movement with every action, and could choose to use a lot of actions in any round to move. It increased flexibility for character options during combat, and made it easier to track movement during a fight.

I absolutely loved Sentinels of Echo City, and...I'm pretty sure I am loving the Stalwart Age even MORE! A review will be posted as soon as DTRPG lets me do so! Welcome back, Mr. Desing!

You're welcome! I included enough in the preview so you can actually go ahead and make a character. Kick the tires for real before investing. I'd say grab a stack of dice and give it a shot. :)

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
