This book combines the Compiled Basilisk Hills cluster with the Supplemental book, creating a hexcrawl region of 107 total 6-mile hexes. Populated Hexes Monthly Issue 0 is a free gazetteer that provides information on the setting, although this hexcrawl can be easily plugged into any existing fantasy world.

Supplemental Hexcrawl

Consisting of 98 6-mile hexes that surround the main Basilisk Hills cluster, this supplemental book provides enough dungeons, lairs, and interesting features to keep your players exploring for months of game time. Written for Old School Essentials, but useable in any old-school system, the book also contains background on the world of Absalom as well as tips on how to run the hexcrawl.

Compiled Cluster

  • 14.22 Lair of the Troglodytes
  • 13.22 The Plateau of Sighs
  • 14.23 The Basilisk Knights
  • 15.22 The Toppled King
  • 15.21 The River’s Source
  • 14.21 The Gateway to the Pallid Fields
  • 13.21 The Gangrenous Orcs

Together, they form an adventuring location that can keep your players busy for months of game time. In addition to multiple dungeons and lairs, the book contains:

  • A town suitable for use as a home base for the players during their explorations.
  • New spells and magic items.
  • New classes, including the half-dryad grove guardian, troglodytes, morlocks, orcs, and more.
  • New rules for expanding your OSR-style game, including magical research and ritual magic, running a clerical temple, ley lines and engines, ways to make dragons unique.
  • Much more!

This title is also available in a hardcover, offset print version with sewn-binding through the author's website.

Is there an overarching theme for this, or I guess more generally what's the pitch for it? What's the world like? All I'm seeing from the description is "here's a bunch of stuff". Asking because I can't tell if it would interest me or not.

Thanks for asking! The hexcrawl can certainly be added to any existing setting, but there is a default setting it is part of. The elevator pitch is that the world of Absalom is defined by a constant struggle and ebb and flow between the forces of Law and Chaos, which chart to rough Cycles where one or the other is dominant. There are a couple of free resources:

*The Lake of Abominations is a free hex: https://www.drivethrurpg.com/product/299799/The-Lake-of-Abominations--Hex-1723
*PHM Issue 0 is a free Gazetteer of the overarching world: https://www.drivethrurpg.com/product/382611/PHM-Issue-0--An-Introduction-to-Absalom

PURCHASER
Hiya there.
I am really liking your product here.

I wish that the map had a different scale (ie closer to patfinders) but I knew it did not before I purchased it. I am thinking of using the mini hexes as 12 mile hexes which would make the larger ones 60 miles across (Truly stretching out that world haha).

I think that way it would make a world much less inhabited by civilized races and be more dangerous anyways with more area to explore so win win.

Do you happen to have any more that would flesh out some more of the surrounding area as of yet? I checked your page but honestly it confused me a little here haha.

I would LOVE to see some small islands statted up like this. ones that comprised anywhere from a single 6 mile hex up to a few dozen or so. I like being able to see the borders of the map where it the land ends so as to be able to place it easier into my own you know :-)

Either way I love what you did with it and hope to see more...See more

Thanks! There's actually a section in the beginning of the book where it discusses adjusting scale. It's easy enough to do, in practice. Right now there is a completed "cluster" to the east, and I'm currently working on a compiled hexcrawl for that area. I've started a wiki that I'm in the process of updating with everything that has been written so far. It's got the hexes broken down by terrain, monsters, dungeons, etc. You might find the map I've uploaded recently to be helpful: https://wiki.rpg.net/index.php/Scarlet_Principalities_Regional_Maps

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
