Aquilae: Western Realm Atlas
by Eric L. [Verified Purchaser] Date Added: 01/12/2023 20:04:31

As I write this, I've been playing TTRPGs for nearly 40 years. I've learned that there are a lot of things that I can do well, some things that I'm alright at, and other things that I just shouldn't try. I always struggled with maps, making them realistic enough to seem like someplace where people could reasonably live, work, and love. So maps, especially good ones, are things of awe-inspiring beauty to me. But this... this is a masterpiece.

I took one look at the Western Realm of Aquilae and knew that I had to run games there. Just the Western Realm is enough map to spend a lifetime gaming in, but I sincerely hope that one day we get to explore the Eastern Realm, too.

The maps are so incredibly well done, you can have reasonably accurate fauna, flora, and weather for each region, because you know the general climate, elevation, and common features. It's clearly a labor of both love and incredible talent.

If you need a world to game in - shoot, even if you already have one - this is by far the best set of world maps that exists as a purchasable product. I promise that you will not be disappointed.

Aquilae: Bestiary of the Realm: Digital Bookshelf (Pathfinder Second Edition / P2E)
by wayne z. [Verified Purchaser] Date Added: 12/31/2022 12:33:06

Can't use any of pathfinder second edition Bestiary, because stats are wrong on everything. from AC, Hit Points, Saving Throws, Skills, Perception, Types of Attacks. you have to go and do everything over just to use any of the Bestiary Creatures, because using the ones in the books will just ruin your game if used.

Villainous Compendium (Pathfinder)
by Philip M. [Verified Purchaser] Date Added: 12/12/2022 17:07:37

This book if huge and perfect for the lazy DM. Plenty of stats for villians, plot hooks, and ideas. Or you can do like I do and find an NPC, reskin it and it's an 800 page book of easy to use stats. I LOVE this book

FlexTale Solo Adventuring Toolkit (multisystem: Pathfinder, P2E, 5E, OSR, DCC)
by Robert R. [Verified Purchaser] Date Added: 09/20/2022 08:51:42

I absolutely love this product. I spend a lot of time with solo roleplaying as a hobby, and this is perhaps the most comprehensive solo toolkit I have ever used. While it may initially seem overwhelming, it's incredibly easy to use what systems and features you like and at whatever level of abstraction or complexity you're comfortable with. Highly recommended for solo players who are fond of fiddly solo systems.

FlexTale Solo Adventuring Toolkit (multisystem: Pathfinder, P2E, 5E, OSR, DCC)
by Peter G. A. [Verified Purchaser] Date Added: 07/25/2022 00:48:47

Hello!

I would just like to say that the whole book is excellent for my use case, Solo Gaming. I only gave this 4 stars because of some formatting, words missing, and the like. But the content itself is remarkable. I can't really specify where and how many mistakes I saw but it is there. And if there is an update to this, and all of those are fixed, I will change my rate to 5 stars.

But, here's my detailed review of the FlexTale Solo Adventuring Toolkit.

I purchased this to use in my Solo Gaming. And after reading, skimming some of that parts I don't need, I know I can use this. Specially the section where the book suggests how to make Quests. That alone is helpful for me. Now, I do think that this book is targetted to DMs, it just feels that way to me. Why do I say that? Because this book somehow "gamifies" DMing. The planning part of the DM is made easier. Now, it may not be for all but for aspiring DMs or the Soloist who will eventually play as the DM as well, this book will really help you.

Yes, this has 600 pages worth of content. And yes, I admit I won't be using 100% of this book, just cause I do want my own spin/brand on the games I will play. But the parts that I will use in this book will definitely add some significant things to my gaming experience. With that said, this book is mostly focused on Pathfinder. Which is really sad, for me specially, since I mostly play system agnostic games. But like anything in this book you can tweak it so that you can use it for ANY system. But with some additional work, which I don't particularly mind.

But all in all, I don't regret buying this book. The read is a bit of a slog, but it is worth it. This book gave me another set of tools I can use when playing Solo. And I do think that, for the aspiring DMs out there, should at least consider this book.

Sincerely, Peter A.

by Thizz M. [Verified Purchaser] Date Added: 05/24/2022 12:53:40

i have the full gazeteer which is incredible, this is just 1 of the countries in that. Gives a good feel for the full book because its the full whole section from the big book, nothing missing.

you may not wanna run an aquilae campaign but just the layout and thoughts of this one country help me plan my own world i wanna make someday.

Aquilae: Bestiary of the Realm Abridged, Vol 1 (5E/Fifth Edition)
by Matthew C. [Verified Purchaser] Date Added: 05/04/2022 22:28:27

One star is lost for what seem to be simple editing issues. Misspellings ("solider" for "soldier"; "Golaith" for "Goliath") are just frequent enough to be notable. Meanwhile, some information seems incorrect (a young blue dragon is bigger than an adult blue dragon, and deadlier than an ancient blue dragon) or missing (the only age of black dragon provided is adult, while every other traditional metallic and chromatic dragon has listings for young, adult, and ancient).

That said:

If you're looking for a monster resource that is pure crunch, you will not do better than this. If you're looking for a monster resource that helps guide you to how a monster should be run, you will only do better than this if you also have the FlexAI Guidebook. This book assigns much-needed combat roles (lurker, skirmisher, elite, brute, etc.) to monsters, helping you design and run encounters that are more than pounding on a bag of hit points.

In conjunction with the FlexAI Guidebook, the monsters can almost literally run themselves in a plausible way. Obviously, a decent DM will do a better job than a collection of tables and die rolls - but the collection of tables and die rolls provides a "baseline" behavior for monsters that is interesting and more sophisticated than "it attacks" for the DM to fall back on.

The quadded statblocks do a pretty good job of scaling monsters to keep them relevant throughout more of an adventuring career - being guided by them is at least as good as being guided by the official monster challenge ratings or the CR formula for homebrew monsters.

Again, of course, the provided scaling will not do a better job than a good DM will of tailoring monsters, but like the FlexAI system, it provides a workable baseline.

What these mean is that the DM can spend less time choosing or buffing mooks, and more time tailoring the "hero" monsters. The DM can spend less time trying to decide if bugbear #4 is smart enough to attack the caster, and more time making sure the important monsters are playing smart and true to type.

Do note that when I say pure crunch, I mean it. Very little space is used to provide art, and no space is used to give background, lore, social/cultural, or behavioral details of the monsters. If you're looking for mythos, you won't find it here. But that's entirely fine, because you can get all of that for these monsters elsewhere, even assuming you don't have your own version of those things for your world already.

by Thizz M. [Verified Purchaser] Date Added: 05/02/2022 08:31:57

insane. all of infiniums stuff is crazy but this might be the most. description says 21 gazeteerrs in one and thats true, big booklength section on each country. I could use this for years. Disapointed i have to wait for the adventure book for even more detail about the points of intrest but itll be worth the wait thats for sure. Im not planning on running aquilae but ill mine this for years to add to my own campaign setting.

This was the biggest waste of money. You spend more time flipping through confusing charts and convoluted rules than actually playing the game. This purchase made me wish that DrivethruRPG had a refund system but they don't, I'm stuck with this.

Dark Obelisk 1: Berinncorte: Players' Guide (Unisystem)
by Lucas H. [Verified Purchaser] Date Added: 01/29/2022 19:03:12

Broke my TTRPG cherry with this book and I have to say, I was somewhat spoiled. The world that is sewn into Berinncorte makes even a nervous, slightly embarrassed first-timer comfortable enough to get into it, and fast. In no time, you will be wondering what the linkage is between the creepy apothecary and the noble sellswordess. This book provides all the relevant details you need to have an immersive experience, regardless of if your GM is using a map generator or TotM.
