I've been playing a campaign set in this universe for almost two years now. I've had the pleasure of having the author himself GM the campaign along with some old high school friends as well as new friends I've met along the way. I was a bit skeptical at first I'm not one to combine genres or foods. I don't believe in fusion. My English breakfast should not be combined with my late night Thai. But this works. It really does. Metaphorically speaking, if you're looking down from orbit, the old lands we associate with Vikings resemble the Wild West. The time and technology has changed, but one can picture the path from there to here. Our group used to error on the side of dice rolling and bigger as better. This was one of the campaigns that actually made us roleplay our characters more than just who had the biggest gun or sword. We had a skald, a valkyrie, a berserker, and a gunslinger amongst others. There has been dice rolling and situations forcing us to actually play our characters. There has been PC deaths. We've gone from being schmucks to being schmucks that the powers that be are using in their games with the Norse gods. If you're a fan of the Norse setting, if you liked The Last Kingdom and Vikings, if you like the old west or the Werewolf: The Wild West setting, I can't recommend this enough. To the previous reviewer, I 100% agree with the idea of including some maps of the setting. We've used a pretty detailed map in our game that the author created after this was initially published. I think the next version would be even better if a version of that map was included to flesh out the setting. Just to complete the full disclosure, I'm a friend of the author, but I'm also a dick and I call things as I see them. This was my first Savage Worlds game and it's led me down quite the awesome rabbit hole.

The concept of this is really fun. If one likes "weird west" stuff (like Deadlands), Sagas & Six-Guns is cool way to mix it up a bit, while keeping to the same general genre.

The only complaint I have is that I wish the writer included a map. There is a chapter in the book that describes the world, including the five Norse Kingdoms, but it isd a bit difficult to determine where they are. Fox example, the Kingdom of Thule is the oldest kingdom. Assuming that this means that it is the farthest east, wher exactly is it and where is it in relation to the other kingdoms? Would it occupy the area of the 13 original American colonies? Would it be more like New Brunswick (based upon the idea that the vikings arrived from the north after settling Iceland and Greenland? Is it actually in the middle of th country? For example, if the vikings sailed down the St. Lawrence into the Great Lakes, might make sense that Thule is somewere around Detroit or Chicago, and they are spreading south, in both directions. Anyway, it is difficult to locate all these places becuase the also have different names. What is the Black River? The Mississippi? Or Lake Sigurd? One of the Great Lakes?

This book is really worth checking out if one likes the wierd west, but I hope that if there is an update, they provide a map.

Ever since the first generic RPG's appeared in the 80's, there has been a steady stream of unique combinations of genres. This is one of those. Combining two perennial favorites, the Western and Fantasy, the author has created a truly unique game world. Aspects of Norse culture have been woven into a place mirroring the Old West, setting the characters as the heroes and heroines of their own sagas, but with stetsons and six-guns. There is even a touch of the steampunk genre, again, well-integrated with the Norse-feel of the setting.

A detailed plot-point campaign and many side adventures enable a game master to put their band of characters into an epic saga at the very core of the setting.

Although they might be fought with guns, many of the enemies featured are the traditional Norse monsters and villains – giants and trolls, the restless undead, and followers of Loki – along with traditional Western enemies – villainous cattle-barons, bank and train robbers, and rustlers.

All in all, this is a solid setting and ready for a lot of fun play with a minimum of preparation beyond a basic familiarity with the Savage Worlds rules, or conversion to a GM's choice of other rule set.
